Walking safety disclaimer — please read
Hill and long‑distance walking carries inherent risks. The route descriptions, distances, difficulty ratings, elevation figures, maps, GPX and GeoJSON files on this site are provided for general guidance only and may contain errors or be out of date. The Westmorland and Furness Way opened on 15 September 2026 and is still bedding in, and paths, waymarking, diversions, transport and facilities can change without notice.
You are responsible for your own safety. Always carry appropriate maps (such as OS Explorer 1:25,000), navigation equipment and clothing, check the weather and current conditions, and assess your own fitness and experience before setting out. You use all route information and GPX files entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss, injury, or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on its content.
Accuracy of information
We work to keep the information accurate and up to date and we flag details that are provisional or need checking, but we make no warranty that the content is complete, current or error‑free. Nothing on this site is official guidance from Westmorland and Furness Council or any other authority. Always confirm details against official and up‑to‑date sources before you travel.
Use of GPX and route files
Our GPX and GeoJSON files are provided free for your personal, non‑commercial use in planning and following a walk. You may load them onto your own devices and apps and share them with the people you are walking with. Please link to our pages rather than re‑hosting or republishing the files, so walkers always get the latest version, and don't sell them or include them in a commercial product without our written permission.
The files are unofficial. Our Westmorland and Furness Way tracks were plotted by us on OS Maps to follow the route closely, but they were not supplied or verified by Westmorland and Furness Council; the official GPX files are on the council's route website. Our Cumbria Way tracks are also our own. No route file is guaranteed to match the waymarking on the ground, and all are provided "as is", without any warranty of accuracy. Where a path is closed or diverted, follow the signed diversion and the waymarks, not the GPX, and don't rely on a GPX file as your only means of navigation.

Unless otherwise stated, the text, design and original content on this site are © furnessway.co.uk and may not be copied or republished in full without permission. You are welcome to link to our pages. Route data derived from third‑party or public sources remains subject to those sources' terms.
Links to third‑party sites
The site contains links to external websites we do not control (for example transport, accommodation and official council pages). We provide these for convenience and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
Advertising and affiliate disclosure
This site is free to use and is funded by advertising. It may display third‑party advertising (see our privacy policy). Local businesses may appear in clearly labelled "Trail Partner" listings, which are sponsored placements (see Trail Partners); partner links are marked as sponsored.
Some links are affiliate links, labelled "Affiliate" or "Affiliate link". If you buy something after following one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Payments from partners and affiliates never decide what we say about the routes, and we only feature products and services we think are useful to walkers.
